Is It Just Me Or What?

Did anyone prepare you for getting older? I was not prepared when the hairs in my nose decided to come out where I would have to trim them, nor was I prepared when hair grew on my upper lip. Or when the cute moles on my face grew and had to be removed, then there was the size 3 body that I had for over 40 years changed, the hips spread, the flat stomach now looks like a bowling ball and no matter how much the exercise or lack of food I have there is no weight loss (sigh)

No, no one prepared me for getting older. When I think of myself, I think of the slim childish person that my heart says I am. Then I look in the mirror and say "this is not me, where did I go?" It reminds me of the movie Peter Pan when the little boy looks into Robin Williams eyes and says "Oh, there you are Peter." I look into the my eyes and say "oh, there you are."

Ahh, the world may not see it but I'm still the childish person I've always been no matter what changes my body goes thru. So, I'll just save the size 3 clothing, my body may not be able to fit in it but my heart always will :)

Hope everyone has a good week!

I didn't prepare for getting older, either. That is something one's parents do. And, grandparents. I certainly wasn't prepared for all that hair on my chinny-chin-chin. I hate that!

There's a great post about aging here. In my comments to Naomi I mentioned that my face has kinda fallen in the last year! My mother didn't have jowls and my sister (different fathers) doesn't appear to be getting them yet, so I can only assume that they come from my father's side of the family.

I will think of you in your size 3 clothing always if you'll think of me with a great jawline!

No, no one prepared me for growing older either. It is just something that happened. Worse, most of the messages seem to be focused on how to, supposedly, prevent aging. A fools delusion if ever there was one. We have such an age segregated society that we get very little exposure to those significantly older (or younger) than ourselves. How many role models do we have for getting older? I would guess we could count them on one hand.

I don't think there is any way to prepare for getting older. We never think we will look like those wrinkled sagging old ladies we see when we are young.

Growing old just happens and you find you adjust with each change as it occurs. I think the biggest shock for me was when my cousin said, upon seeing me for the first time in many years, "You look just like our grandmother."

Betty, Oh I hate the hairs on my chin too. my tweezers are with me constantly :)

Lydia, you've got a deal, I'll always envision you with a great jawline :)

MaryContrary, I agree with you, our society is soooo into anti aging. what ever happened to aging gracefully? As far as role models you hit the nail on the head, "Golden Girls" are the only ones I have. Love that show and theme song :)

Darlene, your right no one can prepare you and it just happens. I had a shock like that too a few months ago when someone saw a picture of my mom (its in my "for my mother" post) and said "you look just like her".
If you look just like your grandmother then your grandmother was a great young looking person :)

Lydia, I just read your reply to Naomi, I love your sense of humor. Braces, ummm I could use those :)
My husband (who is younger then I am) has a saying from Satchel Paige "how old would you be, if you didn't know how old you was"
I tell him, I am as old as my heart which is three years old :)
