Thought For The Day

Cheerfulness keeps up a kind of daylight in the mind, and fills it with a steady and perpetual serenity Joseph Addison and my personal thought for the day is: if the Republicans want to axe S.S., then I want ALL the money back that I put into it!

You go get 'em woman! But keep that cheerful outlook nonetheless. :)
(It really can't come to us losing S.S. and medicare, can it? I was talking about the situation with my acupuncturist on Wednesday. She is from Germany but has lived here for decades (not sure if she is a citizen). She said that Europeans grow up with this sense of of social contract and she is amazed at how little of that she sees here. It was a good point, I thought.

Lydia, thanks :)
I don't know if they will axe it, just have to wait & see.
I love hearing about Europeans and what they think. They look at things differant & grew up in a better culture. I keep saying the gov't needs to learn from thier gov'ts, they have been around a lot longer then we have.

Like you, Lois, I am not sure the unrepentant Scrooges in Washington will scrap S.S. right away. I have 2 brothers and a sister. One brother is only a couple of years behind me so no trouble there (at present). But my youngest siblings are still under 55 for another three and five years. Both have health problems and haven't been able to save very much for retirement having had extensive periods of low wages or layoffs. I am really worried about them. I always thought it was ironic that the first proponent of social security and other social support programs was Otto Von Bismarck who was the antithesis of a bleeding heart liberal. He saw such plans as a way to stem the tide of socialism and communism.

MaryContary, I know how you feel. They may not do it today but they have their greedy eyes on it. If they say their is no money to refund all of us then, WE THE PEOPLE, need to tell them that they can give us a credit towards our taxes till that credit is used up. That will make them think twice about axing it!

I have never heard of Otto, I need to google him. I can always count on you to expand my mind. Thanks, dear friend :)
