The Torch Of Camelot Has Gone Out

I sat in front of my T.V. yesterday morning, they reported that Ted Kennedy had passed away and I was taken back to the day President John Kennedy was murdered.

I was in grade school, my foster mother received a call not to send me to school that day but to have me watch the T.V. and report my reaction. My foster mother had argued that she was not going to let me watch T.V. all day. The reply was that my foster mother would know when to let me watch.

When they reported Kennedy's death from Dallas, I was summoned and placed in front of the T.V. , I saw what never should have happened and what my father had fought against happening but it did happen.

Now, we have lost another Kennedy and the torch of Camelot has been silenced forever. The Kennedy brothers were feared by the powers behind the throne. Now the last one is being laid to rest and we will never see another era of this magnitude.

It was a good ride with the three knights in shining armour. We bid you farewell and fare thee well to Camelot.

Your last paragraph brought a tear. Wonderful!

Your account of where you were when John Kennedy reminded me of where I was. I was at school (in 8th grade) walking between our classroom building and the gym. Everyone was stunned. Some were crying. I have been fascinated by the coverage of Ted Kennedy's death. The one thing that has amazed me is how often they have had to refer to Chapaquikick. For some reason, some of us cannot admit that he overcame his flaws to become a better person and a force for good. Why is it those people are so unforgiving?

Everyone remembers where they were when JFK was assassinated. I was making a movie of my small daughter when my husband phoned me with the news. The world stopped for a brief time then.

The deaths of John and Robert were of tragic proportions while Ted's death is sad. Our loss of these three brothers is inestimable. There will never be others like them.

I've often wondered what really happened. The one person I knew who might have actually known (at least that's what he hinted at) died last year.

I remember watching the news in black and white. The newscaster said in that distinctive voice, "The President is dead."

I didn't always agree with Edward Kennedy, but I had respect for his stubborn stand for what he believed.

Lydia, thank you. It is hard to know that the last Kennedy brother is gone.

MaryContrary, I don't know why people can't let go of that incident and move on. He did more great things after that but they still like the dirt.

Beth, the Kennedys were steadfast people and stood thier ground for what they believed in. I wish we had more like that in the Senate.

Darlene, so true that there will never be anybody like these three men.
