Life At The Bug Hut

Well, our year started out with a bang. The company we work for announced that we had to update autocad to 2012.

What this means is that we have to buy a new computer, buy the 2012 autocad, hubby has to take classes to learn how to draw all over again (after 15 years of drawing from the older autocads this is huge). And its a HUGE amount of money that we will have to put out, around $5,000 to $8,000.

When this bomb was dropped on us, we had a serious discussion. Should we continue in this line of work, should we work for someone else, etc.

We decided to continue in this line of work and continue with the company we work for. It is going to be really hard on my hubby. He is going to have to work and take classes.

This kind of work is very hard mentally, you think in 3d and draw what the millwork companies need to make the product.

The next time you are in a hotel, courthouse or a hospital, take a look at counters, baseboard, railings, walls, judges/jurors box/nurses station.  All of these things started with an architect then comes to us to draw so a millwork company can produce the product.

It is not an easy job and now my hubby has to learn how to re-draw because the industry has changed. The next 6 months are going to be really hard but as we said to each other 'we have a job and for that we are thankful'.

Take care everyone
